Jasmine tea is not flavoured; it is scented. Finished green tea is layered with fresh jasmine blossom picked that evening, left to absorb the aroma as the flowers open overnight, then separated and re-dried. That cycle is one scenting round — yin. Three rounds is the volume grade, five the specialty standard, seven with a bud-heavy base the top. Fuzhou is the reference origin and Fujian ranks first in China for scented tea exports.

Can you make jasmine tea at home with fresh flowers?
Yes, on a small scale: layer freshly opened Jasminum sambac blossoms with dry green tea in a sealed jar for several hours, remove the spent flowers, and repeat if you want a stronger scent. Use only true jasmine grown without pesticides.
Never use “false jasmine” or Carolina jessamine (Gelsemium), which is poisonous despite its name, or star jasmine, which is not a true jasmine. Commercial jasmine tea repeats the scenting over several nights and re-dries the tea each time, which a home jar cannot fully copy, so homemade jasmine tea is lighter and should be used quickly.
