Why is oolong tea expensive?
Oolong takes more work than most teas: repeated tossing to bruise the leaf edges, partial oxidation, fixing, many rounds of rolling for ball-rolled styles and, for roasted styles, hours of roasting. Named cultivars and origins such as Wuyishan rock oolong or Anxi Tie Guan Yin carry further premiums, and top spring and autumn pickings are priced above the rest.
What sets the price of oolong in a bulk quotation?
Cultivar and origin, season, oxidation and roast level, leaf grade and uniformity, packing format — vacuum sachets cost more to pack than bulk cartons — and the residue standard the lot must meet. Quotations are comparable only when these are written into the specification; this site does not publish a per-kilogram price.
How should oolong tea be stored?
Sealed, dry, cool and away from light and strong odours. Lightly oxidised, floral oolongs lose their fresh aroma fastest, so keep them airtight and use an opened pack soon; darker, roasted oolongs are more stable. Brewed leaves are meant for re-steeping in the same session, not for storing.
